A decision was made to inscribe the “Pyongyang Raengmyon Custom”, a pride of our nation, on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the 17 th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO held in Morocco on November 30, 2022.

The “Pyongyang Raengmyon Custom” that boasts its unique taste and national flavor has been registered as an intangible cultural heritage of the world following the “Arirang Folk song”, “Tradition of Kimchi-making” and “Ssirum(Traditional Korean Wrestling)”.

With this, the world came to know better of the Korean folk traditions with a long history.

Our nation’s good folk traditions are being brilliantly inherited and developed amid concerns of the world people. This is inconceivable apart from the devoted efforts of the peerless great men who set great store by national heritage conservation and glorified our nation’s time-honoured history and splendid culture across the world.

Immediately after liberation, President Kim Il Sung established an integral system for the discovery, preservation, and maintenance of national cultural heritage. Even until the last period of his lifetime, he devoted his all to ensuring that the precious cultural heritages of our ancestors are handed down to posterity as national treasures.

Chairman Kim Jong Il , though being preoccupied with his work to lead the revolution and construction, exercised his energetic guidance over the work to implant in the hearts of our people the Korean-nation-first spirit by visiting historical sites and scenic spots and enforcing national heritage conservation.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is carrying on the ideas of love for the country and nation cherished by President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il .

He has elucidated the ways for national cultural heritage conservation such as conducting the work as a nationwide and all-people one and preserving historical sites and relics in their original state.

Upholding the noble ideas of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un for loving the country and nation, all the people in our country are now actively engaged in a nationwide patriotic struggle for the identification and archaeological survey of tangible, intangible, and natural heritages and for preserving them in their original state.

Furthermore, through exchanges with international organizations and other countries, we are intensifying joint studies with foreign historians and archaeologists, organizing seminars, and registering our national traditions as world cultural heritage.

The work for national heritage conservation is well underway in our country under the meticulous care of the Party and state, which will further increase our people’s national pride and patriotism and greatly contribute to enriching the cultural diversity of mankind.
