The following happened when the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un inspected a unit of the Korean People’s Army some years ago.
After watching the training of soldiers for hours despite cold wind, he dropped in at its daily provision store which was full of various subsidiary foods.
While feasting his eyes on the store, he suddenly approached a place to examine something there. It was a birthday list of soldiers.
An officer of the unit said that the usual dietary level was high but it was particularly higher on the birthdays of soldiers.
Making a hearty laugh, Kim Jong Un said: Birthday is quite special. Man comes to know his birthday when his parents tell it to him. Whenever one greets his or her birthday, he or she thinks more about parents and special foods. Therefore, the soldiers would be delighted if birthday spreads are arranged for them.
Looking at the list carefully again, he asked officers to prepare well the birthday spread for a soldier greeting his birthday that day. When he was told that there were some soldiers whose birthdays were the same, he said the birthday spread should be given separately for them and that triplets, too, don’t like to have their wedding spread on the same table.
Once, during his inspection of an island-defending unit, he saw “a birthday list of company soldiers” and said: Preparing a birthday spread seems to be a trivial matter, but it is quite important. If soldiers receive wonderful birthday spreads and congratulations from their comrades-in-arms, they would be better in their military service.
Encouraged by his meticulous and sincere affection for them, the KPA soldiers call him their father and unreservedly follow him with loyalty.
