Phyongnam Noodle House, a public catering facility located in the picturesque area of Moran Hill in the capital city of Pyongyang, has been renovated to the delight of citizens.
Established in February 1959, it has been renowned for serving distinctive national foods.
In December 2023, it has been renovated into a gable-roofed Korean-style structure with a total floor space of over 10 000 square metres, in a terraced way to blend in well with natural environment. It has eight dining halls with an accommodation capacity of 1 000 persons at a time as well as a Taedonggang Beer bar.
Chae Kwang Il, resident in Wolhyang-dong, Moranbong District, Pyongyang, after visiting it on New Year’s Day, said: The unique buckwheat flavour has brought me here. I was so excited to enjoy the true taste of famous Pyongyang cold noodles again in such an excellent service environment.
According to its manager Ri Jong Nam, the restaurant serves various national foods and soft drinks with the stress on kogijaengban noodles (meat-garnished noodles on a flat plate) and Pyongyang cold noodles. An increasing number of visitors have dined at the house since it reopened.
