Recently Segori Senior Middle School in Pothonggang District, Pyongyang, has achieved successes by actively running a table tennis group.
Since long ago, the school has paid close attention to helping all its students acquire the techniques of more than one sports event. It laid out a nice training hall and ensured that the group was run in an effective way.
It also admitted into the group those students with high academic performance, aptitude for table tennis and suitable physique.
Gym teacher Jon Su Jong, based on the rich experience she accumulated during her professional career and on the theories she learned during her university days, guided the training of the group members scientifically as suited to their age and psychology.
She focused efforts on teaching them serving techniques to grasp the principle of the rotation of the ball and trained them to master various stroke skills like drive, forehand stroke and push.
Thanks to the deep concern of the school’s officials and her effective guidance, the skills of the group members improved very quickly, making them successful in matches.
In recent years the school has won table tennis events of national games four consecutive times.
In particular, its students fully demonstrated their skills at the table tennis matches in the national youth and children’s sports festival held in March. In the finals they skilfully applied various techniques, striking the spectators with admiration.
Ri Chun Yang, a group member, won the top prize, trophy and medal in the 2025 national schoolchildren’s games.
