It happenedon the evening of October 3, Juche 34(1945).
President KimIl Sung returned home from a field guidance tour. As he entered theparlour, he saw new pieces of furniture arranged in it and called hisadjutant to ask him if he had brought thefurniture.
Hearinghis affirmative answer, he admonished him for having furnished the room and askedwhy he had done it though he knew well about the living conditions of the people.
Saying thatthey had never made revolution to live in luxury and now they had to devote alltheir energies to making the country powerful and improving the people’s life, hetold him to furnish their houses with the same pieces of furniture as those ofthe people when they use such furniture.
At thattime, the newly changed pieces of furniture were not expensive, but ordinaryones which could be bought even by the people with good income.
But the Presidentknew that there were not many people who lived in houses with such furniture asit was a hard time immediately after the country’s liberation. So he did notallow it and scolded his adjutant.
When theadjutant told him that he got it, still dropping his head, he toldhim to keep them in other place and use when necessary.
ThePresident led a simple and frugal life all his life.
