May 9 1945 is the day of victory of the Russian people in the Great Patriotic War.

The day remains etched in history as a great victory of the unity and spiritual strength of the Soviet people and the matchless bravery they displayed both on the front and in the rear.

Russia intensifies education in patriotism among the people while making them treasure the feats of the victorious wartime generations as part of its effort to add lustre to the history of war victory.

A military parade took place at the Red Square in Moscow, the capital of Russia, on May 9 last year to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

President Putin said in his speech at the military parade that the battles decisive of the destiny of the country were always just battles for the country and people, that they are faithful to the will of their ancestors, and that they know well what it means to reach the height of their militant, labour and spiritual cause.

During the Great Patriotic War, the heroic ancestors showed that nothing is more solid, powerful and reliable than unity, he said, adding that nothing is stronger than love for the country in the world.

The speaker of the State Duma of Russia said at a meeting in June 2023 that the feats of the victorious wartime generations should not be forgotten. The Soviet people, made up of the Russians, Byelorussians, Armenians, Kazakhs, Kirghizes and others, suffered the greatest damage in the war, he noted, adding that today they should keep the memory of their ancestors wherever they live.

Russia also directs a great deal of energies to bolstering up its defence capabilities to defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Unlike the mission it assumed at the time of establishment, NATO, whose right to military operation is limited to "European defence", is talking about "ensuring global security, not in a specific region", while expanding its scope to the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Latin America and other parts of the world.

In particular, the US and NATO put increasing military pressure on Russia on the pretext of "threat from Russia". This is illustrated by the recent remarks made by the chairman of the NATO Military Commission that NATO is ready to fight an open war with Russia and the annual report of NATO focusing on major tasks to contain Russia and China.

The expansion of NATO heightened the military tension in the western strategic direction of the country and such act of Western countries compelled Russia to take countermeasures, said Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu at a council meeting of the Defence Ministry in April. Russia will further boost the production of essential weapons and military and technical equipment to cope with the threats posed by the US and its allies, he noted.

The Korean people extend full support and firm solidarity to the Russian people in their effort to defend justice and glorify the tradition of victory.
