One day,President Kim Il Sung was crossing arugged pass in Sakju County onhis field inspection tour.
He told thedriver steering the car along the steep pass to drive it slowly and carefully looked out of thewindow at a sloping field where plump ears of corn were ripening. Then he got thedriver to stop the car.
Despite thesweltering heat, he walked into the middle of the field where the earth puffed steam.He touched corn ears, picked one of them, shucked the corn, measured the lengthand circumference of the ear containing ripe grains and estimated its weightbefore watching the stonyfield where themaize plants rooted.
When theofficials and farmers of the farm came and respectfully bowed to him, he praised them for having done farming well as heappreciated their painstaking efforts.
He asked them howmuch manure and fertilizers they applied.
The farm officialsand farmers failed to answer readily.
In fact, althoughthey had not applied much manure and fertilizer in the fields there, they hadbeen able to reap good crops every year and therefore they had not tried to findout the secret of good harvest, only being pleased with that.
An official ofthe farm told him aboutthat.
He silentlylooked at the corn and millet fields carefully once again for a while to findout the secret of good crops, without overlooking the matter.
Then thePresident said that apatite seemedto be deposited there, adding confidently that as the soil contained phosphorus, maize and milletwere growing well on the sloping fields to which no manure or fertilizer wasapplied.
Everyone was surprisedby his unexpected remarks.
Never had theythought that there would be precious apatite resources under the land they hadbeen farming.
Afterwards, prospectingwas carried out. It was confirmed that the area was a promising apatite field as predicted bythe President.
Thus the “treasure”,which had been hidden under the ground for countless ages, could be discovered thanks to thebrilliant wisdom of the President.
