U.S. Media Says Sanctions Do More Harm Than Good to Country

A recent article posted by U.S. online magazine “Anti War” states that the sanctions used by the U.S. governments in history to gain world dominance does more harm than good to the national interests of the U.S.

The article relates that the U.S. has imposed sanctions on one-third of the countries of the world, noting that this is negatively affecting quite a number of civilians and industries. The article continued as follows:

The economic sanctions of the U.S. targeted at enemy states began to be executed on a full-scale since the 1990s and increased tremendously since the 9.11 incident in 2001.

Currently, the sanctions imposed by the U.S. is 3 times more than that of any other country and its targets include individual persons, organizations, assets and others.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury Department admits that the exponentially-increasing number of sanctions has now entered an uncontrollable stage. Even disapproval from those in power of the U.S. Administration is growing, saying that the merciless and endless sanctions mechanism of the U.S. is now in an out-of-control situation.

History proves that the U.S. sanctions failed to achieve its objectives.

The successive U.S. administrations imposed sanctions on Korea but couldn’t stop Pyongyang’s nuclear development, and their sanctions imposed on Syria and Venezuela also failed to bring these countries down.

The current U.S. administration took advantage of the Ukrainian situation and imposed more than 6,000 sanctions on Russia and yet it failed to slow down her economy but rather had a negative impact on world economy.

It is with good reason that one of the officials who used to work for Obama administration commented that the U.S. would first think of sanctions whenever something comes up.

The sanctions imposed by the U.S. do have likely reasons but the problem is there are too many of them to achieve desired effects. Instead, they are having a negative impact on innocent people and other countries.

This is also wreaking havoc on U.S. attempt at maintaining its politico-economic supremacy. With the dynamic structure in the international political arena changing, Asian, African, and Latin American countries - all under U.S. sanctions - are willingly opting for multilateral organizations like BRICS that pivot around China and Russia.

The U.S. should give a serious consideration to the negative consequences of its actions, for it needs to recalibrate its sanctions policy.
