Tokyo Electric Power Holding Incorporation made an announcement about the start of its 8 th discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean on August 7 and its plans to continue with the discharge of up to 7,800t of nuclear-contaminated water until the 25 th .
In regard to this, China clarified its stand against this.
The spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry said that China is consistent in its stand against Japan’s unilateral discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean and continued to state as follows:
The discharge of Fukushima’s nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean is by no means a matter confined to Japan as it is related to the health of the entire humanity, the world’s marine environment, and the common interests of the international community.
Japan has exposed the entire world to the peril of potential pollution by continuing with its discharge when it has yet to address the concerns of the international community regarding the safety of the discharge, sustainable reliability of the purifiers, efficiency of monitoring and evaluation plans, etc.
This is a highly irresponsible act.
China has already expressed its concerns towards Japan on several occasions.
The spokesperson concluded by strongly calling for Japan’s full commitment to cooperation in establishing an independent, effective and long-term international surveillance system that involves substantial engagement of Japan’s neighboring states and other stakeholders.
