Forty years ago in August 1984, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea visited our country.

President Kim Il Sung sincerely gave selfless material aid and moral support to the national liberation struggle and the building of a new society of the African people. He kindly received the goodwill envoy of the Equatorial Guinean people from the faraway Africa. In the meetings and talk, President Kim Il Sung highly appreciated the many successes achieved by the Equatorial Guinean people in their struggle for building national economy and culture as well as creating new life.

President Kim Il Sung expressed our people’s invariable support and solidarity to the struggle of the Equatorial Guinean people for the building of a new society. He declared our Republic’s stand to develop into various fields the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation which came to a new turning point of development with President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo’s visit.

President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo expressed his great respect for President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who had always sent unreserved support and encouragement to the progressive countries and peoples aspiring for independence and rejecting domination and subordination. He stated his intention to make active efforts to produce positive outcomes from the new bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation.

While visiting various places during his visit, President Obiang expressed great admiration at the grand changes achieved in socialist building by the Korean people under the wise leadership of the great leader.

Since then, the friendly ties between the DPRK and Equatorial Guinea have been continuing for decades through trials and challenges of history. Today, it is further cemented and developed in all fields including politics, the economy and culture with the deep attention of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un - the great master of independent politics - and President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

During the 19 th NAM Summit held in Kampala, Uganda, this year in January, President Obiang met with the special envoy of the DPRK government. During the talk, President Obiang offered his congratulations to the government of the DPRK and its people for their phenomenal progress achieved under difficult circumstances. The President also said that the two countries share a wonderful history of the development of bilateral relations, adding that Equatorial Guinea is an independent country and thus it will continue to support the struggle of the fraternal Korean people even if it is faced with the pressure from the outside.

The people of the DPRK sends it full support and firm solidarity to the government of Equatorial Guinea and its people who stoutly defend the country’s sovereign rights and national interests, resolutely rejecting the West’s neo-colonialist maneuvers and their stubborn interference in domestic affairs.

The DPRK will unfalteringly develop the friendly relations between the DPRK and Equatorial Guinea that was established through common aspirations for independence and justice.
