The agricultural sector of the DPRK has finished the sowing of winter wheat and barley in the main.
Having ensured that the regions increased the area for sowing the seeds of the crops in conformity with their features, officials of the Agricultural Commission and agricultural guidance organs at all levels are planning and guiding their farm work in a scientific and responsible manner.
Pyongyang Municipality pushed forward farm work while examining in detail the biological characteristics of crops and soil tilt on the principle of sowing the right crop on the right soil and cultivating the right crop in the right season.
Under the condition that various kinds of farm work had to be executed simultaneously, South Phyongan Province chose the right season for sowing in consideration of the expected weather conditions and made sure that selecting seeds and other kinds of farm work were done in keeping with technical requirements and all work was carried out according to the schedule and plan.
As the area for cultivating wheat and barley increased, North Phyongan Province improved the soil fertility by applying a large amount of organic fertilizers and made full preparations for sowing, which helped it achieve good results in sowing winter wheat and barley.
North Hwanghae Province also registered high results in sowing. The province allocated manpower and means rationally according to field and plot and ensured that fields favourable for irrigation were designated as right land for cultivating winter wheat and barley and the technical regulations were strictly observed in determining the amount of seeds to be sown per phyong, the depth of sown seeds in soil and the thickness of soil covering the seeds.
Jagang and North Hamgyong provinces, Nampho and Kaesong finished the sowing of winter wheat and barley though it had to focus major efforts on harvesting and threshing.
