The Workers’ Party of Korea has recorded the longest rule in the history of socialism spanning nearly 80 years, during which it has organized and guided all victories of the Korean people. Throughout its history it has invariably maintained its original ideals and features.
The WPK has firmly defended the ideal of independence throughout the whole course of its founding and the development of the state.
Founded soon after Korea was liberated from the Japanese military occupation on August 15, 1945, the Party carried out the task of building a new nation in conformity with the country’s actual conditions. Then it led the country to win a miraculous victory in the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) against the US-led imperialists’ armed invasion. After the war it dynamically pushed forward the postwar rehabilitation and socialist construction. Throughout this historical period, it firmly maintained the stand and ideal of independence.
The Party has regarded the promotion of the people’s well-being as its priority task since its founding.
In the first days of its founding, the Party made clear its raison d’etre as a party organized for the people and struggling for them and has since formulated and implemented all its policies by reflecting their demands and aspirations.
The numerous structures built for them over the recent ten-odd years fully prove the fact that it has established devoted service for them as its unique trait and the core of its activities.
It could record such a long ruling history while enjoying the absolute support and encouragement of the people because it has staunchly safeguarded the ideal of socialism.
All its activities have been oriented to defending and steadily developing socialist system which provides the people with rights to independence, dignity and a happy life as human beings.
It has invariably defended and more thoroughly implemented socialist state building lines and policies in the face of upheavals of history. By doing so, it has clearly proved that socialism is a science and so is its victory.
Having ushered in a new era of comprehensive development of socialism, the Party is now striving to attain the goal of building a socialist power on the strength of patriotism of all the people and their single-hearted unity.
