Pae Jae Son, chief of the orthodontic dental department of Ryugyong Dental Hospital is a renowned medical worker with high skills and sense of devotion.
He receives patients with malocclusion.
Those with malocclusion are unattractive to look at. Unless treated in time, malocclusion easily leads to other odontological diseases, dyslalia and digestive troubles.
It usually takes two to four years to treat them and the interval of hospital visits is about a month.
“I feel buoyant when I see the changed appearance of the teeth and faces of my patients each month. Some of them suffered from so severe malocclusion that they could not eat, laugh, pronounce nor breathe properly. I am happy when I see them taking food with ease and wearing smiles after being treated,” said Pae.
He was a teacher at Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences. But when the Ryugyong Dental Hospital was newly set up about ten years ago, he was appointed the department chief of the hospital.
From the beginning he exerted himself to introduce the achievements of advanced orthodontic science and technology. He assiduously studied new technological data and at the same time applied advanced diagnosing and treatment methods.
In the course of this he has developed 20-odd advanced treatment methods including orthodontic therapy by means of mini-implant and found over ten kinds of domestically-available materials essential to orthodontic processes.
In addition, he has cured patients whose treatment was regarded as impossible with existing techniques.
Among those cured are a 12-year-old who was unable to eat, laugh or speak because of a combination of dysphasia and dyspnea, and a young man and woman who, due to severe mandibular protrusion, could not eat nor speak properly and had to cover their jaws.
At the 17th national symposium of health workers on experience of devoted service held in November last year, he introduced his experience of treating patients, leaving a lingering impression on the participants.
He often says to the colleagues at his department that they could achieve successes in their work when they possessed a sense of sincere devotion and high skills.
He has compiled many textbooks, reference books and guidelines, presented valuable essays to international journals and helped all the members of his department win academic degrees.
The state honoured him with the title of meritorious persons of socialist patriotism in recognition of his merits.
