One day in June 2014, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited Ssuk Islet on the Taedong River which flows through the central part of the capital city of Pyongyang.
A project for developing the islet was under way there, but he looked round the construction site.
That day he said: An indoor football stadium is planned to be built here, but it does not suit the actual conditions of the country; we should make all the people well versed in science and technology in order to build our country into a world power; I have decided to have a base for disseminating science and technology across the country built on Ssuk Islet.
Then he added: We should build the sci-tech complex as a wonderful structure which perfectly reflects the Party’s idea of attaching importance to science and technology and as a dear house where scientists, technicians, researchers, university students and all other people visit and learn knowledge to their heart’s content.
Looking at the both sides of the river, he said with pleasure that the sci-tech complex to be built on Ssuk Islet would serve as another springboard for the country in its effort to outpace the world and that he was pleased to think of that.
On January 1, 2016, the inauguration ceremony of the Sci-Tech Complex took place with splendour on the islet in the presence of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .
