Recently, a change has been taking place in the dietary life of the Korean people.
Many families in the capital city of Pyongyang make different dishes with wheat flour to vary their diet. Public catering establishments are also serving the customers with tasty and nutritious flour-based foods.
The effort to implement the Party and government policy on making the dietary culture based on rice and flour food has begun to pay off.
The Pyongyang Wheat Flour Processing Factory is playing a leading role in this endeavour.
Established in the 1970s, the factory is located in the Taephyong area of Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang.
Entering the new century it renovated over 10 buildings, erected five new buildings and updated its equipment.
All its production lines ranging from raw material feeding to packing run on an automated and streamlined basis and under an integrated production system.
It has established a strict analysis system based on advanced equipment, including biological microscope to maintain quality control in a scientific way.
According to Ri Song Hyok, chief engineer of the factory, his factory produces various grades of quality flour, and tens of kinds of processed flour foods such as bread, cakes, noodles and instant noodles.
The functional foods like doughnut, spirulina sandwich and chlorella noodles are popular among citizens.
The employees of the factory still remember the time when Chairman Kim Jong Il and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited their factory in mid-December 2010.
That day the Chairman made the rounds of the general control room and new workshops for doughnut, bread and cake. He said that officials and employees at the factory should work hard to put production on a normal basis at a high level, bearing in mind the honour and responsibility that they take a lion’s share in improving the dietary life of the citizens of the capital city.
True to the instructions of the Chairman, the factory is pushing ahead with the work to store and process wheat in keeping with the increased output of wheat in the country, and striving to produce tasty and highly-nutritious processed flour foods.
