Ten years is a long time. But it does little to blunt the Korean people’s yearning for Chairman Kim Jong Il (February 16, 1942-December 17, 2011).
Endowed with extraordinary ideological and theoretical acumen, sophisticated and seasoned leadership, and iron-willed courage and determination, Kim Jong Il ushered in an era of gigantic creation and miracle, safeguarded the nation and people, and led an epic life of virtue and devotion to the fellow countrymen.
The Korean people still remember the ceaseless high-intensity forced march taken by the Chairman with an indomitable spirit in the 1990s, a period of the worst difficulties the country had ever faced, in order to defend their prestige and destiny.
On an inspection trip he braved blizzards singing to himself that he would stay the course even if others would not understand him. On a hot midsummer day, he had to go on his guidance tour with no time to cool himself in a high-pressure water bath.
During the period his field train served as his office room and home.
You should regard the people as your God and pluck even a star from the sky and have a flower produced even on a stone if it is for the good of them. This was his ennobling view on the people.
He used to say that he was pleased and happy to see the people enjoying themselves and he had nothing to desire if they are well-off and satisfied. To this end, he had devoted his heart and soul to laying solid foundations for the eternal prosperity of the socialist power.
Out of determination to do more things for the sake of the people, he continued with his high-intensity forced march on the field train till the last moments of his life. Thus, his revolutionary career was centred on the people.
That is why the Korean people still earnestly revere him, singing that his lifelong exploits as wide as the sea and as high as the sky were all dedicated to them.
