Last year as many as 13 000 people from North Phyongan, Jagang and Ryanggang provinces who were left homeless by heavy floods came to Pyongyang where they received a VIP treatment for 130 days before they returned to their native villages that underwent splendid transformation.
But a girl, among them, stayed more than a month longer.
She is Mun Wi Gyong from Chosan County of Jagang Province. One day in October the flood victims received a medical checkup, in which medical workers found some deep scars on her hands and feet. According to those who came to Pyongyang with her, she was severely injured in an accident when she was five.
Right after the medical checkup, measures were taken to give her good treatment at a central hospital.
So, she was admitted to the Korea General Red Cross Hospital. She went under the knife by locally famous Rim Hyon Dan, chief of the cosmetic surgery department, and four nurses were assigned to her. Hospital-wide and department-wide consultations were held five and more than a hundred times respectively.
Officials in the health sector including senior officials of the hospital visited her almost every day to inquire after her condition and take relevant measures. The doctors, nurses and the in-patients of the hospital showed parental concern for her.
Although she was in hospital, she received the same loving care as other victims. She was provided with nutritive meals every day and relevant officials frequently came to see her with underwear for different seasons, shoes, quilted overcoat, school uniforms and things and satchel.
As her condition began to improve, a teacher from Saesallim Senior Middle School in Pyongyang’s Tongdaewon District took charge of her study. Thus, lessons were given for a single student.
Deeply moved to hear that their daughter is under the constant benevolent care of the Workers’ Party of Korea, her parents said to their neighbours:
Frankly speaking, we were worried about Wi Gyong when we sent her to Pyongyang because others might be curious about her deformity. But now our anxiety disappeared completely. Our daughter is the happiest girl in the world.
On January 28 Wi Gyong left the hospital for her dear parents and wonderfully-changed home village, with a happy smile free from mental anguish. Happy memories of the unforgettable days spent in Pyongyang and firm resolve to repay the benefits from the Party ran across her face.
