Sports and Brain Work , a book published by the Higher Educational Books Publishing House, is widely read.
The book consists of such parts as “Athletes and Their Brainpower,” “Sports Sci-tech and Super Speed Reading,” “Sports and Super Speed Reading for Developing Brains” and “High Aim and Great Perseverance.” It catches on with readers as it helps coaches and athletes unlock the potentials of their brains as much as possible in competitions and make sustainable development in performance. It also tells sporting enthusiasts about the principles and knacks of developing their mental, physical and brain abilities.
The book was authored by Kim Jong Sun, PhD, who was once chief of the SSR education research section at Pyongyang Middle School No. 1.
As one of the pioneers of SSR education in the DPRK, Kim has made a tangible contribution to its development.
Among her books are SSR (2011), SSR Develops Brains (2014), Mind Map–Treasure of Brains (2019) and Star of Brains (2020).
Kim has trained many talents in SSR, some of whom proved themselves at the 28th World Memory Championships and other international events.
Since retirement, the 62-year-old woman has been throwing herself into a research project geared to helping athletes exploit the potentials of their brains as much as possible.
“Modern sports are geared to training smart athletes who are possessed of playing skills as well as great mental abilities and outstanding brainpower,” she writes in her Sports and Brain Work . “Those who take centre stage in the current world sports circles are unexceptionally masters of brainpower who possess both remarkable physical abilities and unusual mental prowess. There is no doubt that development of brainpower results in unbelievable world records in competitions.”
Kim has been involved in workshops for those from sports schools in Pyongyang and relevant units from across the country, in which she gave lectures on how to stay focused at a high level, have a good sense of scoring and foster memory and creative imagination.
While the Olympic motto is “Faster, Higher, Stronger and All Together,” the goal of SSR is “At a go, Highly Ambitious and 100%,” Kim says.
