Korea’s classic Tangunsegi is known to have been compiled by Ri Am in 1363.
The book deals with typical events, facts, language, literature and folk customs in the period of Tangun’s Joson from the early 30th century BC to the mid-15th century BC.
As it chronicles the history of the 47 monarchs of Tangun’s Joson together with the reigning period of each monarch and the typical state affairs in the relevant period, it can be used for reference for the study of the ancient history of Korea.
The book also refers to some information about the Sinji and Karimtho characters used by the ancient Koreans and the details about how the songs such as Oaak , Aehwanga and Toriga were created and their words, thus proving to be helpful to the research into the contemporary language and literature.
Also included in the book are astronomical and meteorological records including solar eclipse, cyclone, heavy rain and flood and earthquake that are helpful to the study of the astronomy in the ancient times.
In addition, it shows the customs of the ancient Koreans and their political and economic life and external relations.
As it contains the information that is conducive to the historical study of Ancient Joson and the understanding of the political, economic and cultural life of the Korean people in those days, the book is regarded as a national classic.
