Undertakings for improving conditions and environment for education are in full swing in the DPRK. Last year alone, after Songga Senior Middle School in Kangdong County was renovated as a model, over 340 schools, more than 780 branch schools and some 150 kindergartens were newly built or facelifted.

This is associated with the close attention and meticulous guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who has defined education as the most important of all state affairs.

One December day in 2019 he met an official. After giving him instructions on his work, he referred to the conditions of schools in regions.

In those years, the conditions of many schools in the country failed to keep pace with the stirring reality being brought about in the new era of national rejuvenation.

Describing the state of the buildings of middle and primary schools in regions, Kim Jong Un said that he planned to vigorously push ahead with the work to renovate schools next year as a Party-wide undertaking.

One day in January the following year he said to some senior officials of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea that projects to renovate the schools in the general education field should be pushed ahead and stressed the need to work out a plan for the undertaking with an eye to about ten years ahead and carry it out stage by stage and renovate schools unconditionally in accordance with the plan beginning with the most backward schools.

It was by no means easy to renovate all the schools across the country because many large construction projects were underway in various parts of the country.

That day Kim Jong Un clarified in detail the orientation and ways for the undertaking including the supply of steel, cement and fuel.

Again, on January 24, he emphasized to relevant officials that it was necessary to draw up a 10-year plan for renovating schools properly and implement it thoroughly by dividing it quarterly and annually.

In addition, he took measures of solving problem of funding for the undertaking, organizing the powerful central command team and provincial, city and county headquarters led by the chief secretaries of corresponding Party committees.

True to his lofty intention the undertaking could steadily progress full steam ahead.

At the 11th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the WPK held in December last year, he underlined the need to push forward the modernization of schools, which claims a lion’s share in strengthening the educational foundations, as a state undertaking, and set an ambitious goal to renovate all schools across the country and push it forward persistently so as to carry it through to the end without fail.

The Korean people visualize the rosier future of their country in the 10-year goal set forth by Kim Jong Un .
