Impartiality and Objectivity in Human Rights Issue Advocated

Many countries criticized the annual report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights as selective and double-standard during the 59 th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). They said that the report turns a blind eye to the human rights situations in Western countries and deals only with the “human rights issues” of certain countries. They urged that impartiality and objectivity should be maintained.

Russia, Belarus, Venezuela and several other states underlined that social values inappropriate for respective countries cannot be forced upon. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has addressed issues unrelated to human rights in its annual report, they added, pointing out that selectivity and bias are widely found in the activities of the OHCHR.

They also revealed that the High Commissioner and the OHCHR openly interfere in the internal affairs of other countries by targeting and attacking countries of their dislike under the pretext of human rights, while they turn a blind eye to the human rights situation in Western countries. They also take advantage of unreliable information and evidence to non-objectively assess the situation of a certain country, even making unhesitant attacks on its supreme leadership.

They continued that respect for the principle of multilateralism, national characteristics and development trends is an important issue for genuine promotion and protection of human rights in the current era. They strongly demanded that the OHCHR fully maintain the principles of impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity and strictly adhere to the UN Charter and its principles in response to the call of humankind and not the instructions of a small minority of countries.
