During the 59 th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), many countries strongly called for improving the legal system to prevent hate crimes, instigation of violence and acts of discrimination based on racism on July 3.
Russia, Venezuela, Palestine and many other countries expressed serious concern over the return of rising worldwide racial discrimination and oppression. They stressed that racism should not be used as a reason for geopolitical interests, selective pressure and interference in internal affairs.
Continuing that racial and national chauvinism is becoming state policies of countries that call themselves an advanced democratic state and a human rights champion, they called on all countries to fulfill their international duty and oppose racism-based hate crimes and instigation of violence. The countries also underlined the need to include appropriate clauses for criminal punishment in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
Also during the session, many countries expressed their stand to eliminate racial bias and discrimination and thoroughly adhere to the principles of equality, mutual respect and experience sharing. They also expressed their stand to direct more national and international efforts against all forms of discrimination.
