Onto New Development of DPRK-Russia Relations

On August 4, 2001, Moscow Declaration was signed between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Russian Federation, marking a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

During his official visit to the Russian Federation in August 2001, Chairman Kim Jong Il had meetings and talks with President Putin and laid solid foundation for the expansion and development of the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, thus writing a new chapter of DPRK-Russia friendship and the cause of independence in the new century.

The conclusion of the DPRK-Russia Moscow Declaration was an official affirmation of the will and stand of the two countries to proactively strive for global peace and security and a new world structure. This gave great encouragement to the world independence- and peace-loving forces, while it sent a stern warning to the imperialists and anti-peace forces undermining global strategic balance and security and seeking supremacy.

With firm revolutionary faith and noble sense of moral obligation, Chairman Kim Jong Il paid tribute to the Lenin Mausoleum and the Tomb of Unknown Heroes during his visit. It was a great surprise for the Russian people and the entire world.

Hence, people from all walks of life including figures of public and press circles in different countries commended his visit to Russia as the event of global importance in 2001, highly praising Chairman Kim Jong Il as the world’s veteran statesman and great leader in the era of independence.

The visit to Russia by Chairman Kim Jong Il served as a significant occasion which gave great pride and self-confidence to our people who vigorously march along the road of socialism, braving all sorts of trials and hardships, with a strong belief in their just cause and a brighter future.

The DPRK-Russia friendship, which was forged and continuously strengthened and developed by the preceding leaders, is now in its heyday after entering a new phase of development thanks to the special attention of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .

The DPRK and Russia, which firmly succeeded the noble traditions of friendship and fraternity, are now achieving great successes in all fields of the bilateral relations by dint of close contact and cooperation of mutual benefits, overcoming all challenges and obstacles at home and abroad. The two countries are supporting each other more strongly than ever in the international arena.

With the conclusion of inter-state treaty on a comprehensive and strategic partnership between the DPRK and the Russian Federation based on the principles of equality, respect for sovereignty, good neighborliness and mutual benefits, the relations between the two countries are now further developing into an eternal alliance with bright future and into an everlasting blood-sealed relations based on comradely unity and militant friendship.

The party and the government of the DPRK will continue to expand and develop the strategic partnership with Russia which has entered an overall development phase, while strongly supporting and closely cooperating with each other in all fields.
