The international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement is making headway around the world with dynamic activities launched to keep people safe from disputes and natural disasters and bring normalcy to the victims.
From its incipiency the movement has been committed to protecting human lives from wars, armed conflicts and natural disasters and brining life back to normal on a worldwide scale and worked to promote international and regional cooperation and solidarity to this end, thus making a distinguished contribution to the efforts.
Today, the movement consists of national RC societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Established on October 18, 1946, the Red Cross Society of the DPRK joined the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in May 1956. Since then it has assisted the government with public health, hygiene, rescue, disaster control and other operations.
It is the primary mission of the society to help promote the public health and wellbeing.
It strives to promote public health and wellbeing by embodying the government’s people-first principle in its work.
Government measures are taken to ensure that everyone can have access to medical care in time at modern hospitals built across the country. Efforts are made to protect the people from flood and other natural disasters and relieve the victims of pains.
As an active assistant of the national public health, the DPRK Red Cross Society focuses on the mass-based health and hygienic operations designed to promote public wellbeing, enhance hygienic and cultural level and prevent infectious and other diseases.
Young RC volunteers’ activities are greatly encouraged to inspire more participation.
May 8 is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
