Choe Son Hui, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, issued the following statement on July 4:
The word "DPRK-US summit" which has become dim even in our memory began to raise the topic of conversation from a few days ago, stealing the limelight of the international community.
There is a person who thoughtlessly voices an intention to mediate the summit, utterly unaware of how we, the dialogue party, would think of it, while there is a rumour that the US ruling quarters admit the need to hold DPRK-US summit before the US presidential election.
There are even some dreamers who hope to leverage our denuclearization measures for a conditional lift of sanctions, while expressing an expectation of "October surprise".
Now is a very sensitive time when even any slightest misjudgment and misstep would incur fatal and irrevocable consequences. We cannot but be shocked at the rumour concerning the summit, which is indifferent to the present situation of the DPRK-US relations.
Is it possible to hold a dialogue or have any dealings with the US which persists in its policy hostile towards the DPRK in disregard of the agreements already made at the past summit?
It is clear to us, even without meeting, with what shallow trick the US will approach us as it has no intention to make a bold decision to go back to the drawing board.
The US is mistaken if it thinks such things as negotiations would still work on us.
We have already worked out a more detailed strategic timetable for putting under control the long-term threat from the US.
There will never be any adjustment and change in our State policy, according to external parameters like an internal political schedule of someone.
There is no need of lengthy talks.
We do not need to sit face to face with the US, as it only considers the DPRK-US dialogue as nothing but a tool for grappling with its political crisis.
