The Monument to the Three Charters for National Reunification was unveiled on August 14, Juche 90 (2001) in order to hand down for all ages the exploits President Kim Il Sung performed for the country’s reunification and in reflection of the Korean people’s desire and will to reunify the country.
The monument is 30 metres high and 61.5 metres wide.
It depicts two women holding high the emblem of the three charters for national reunification. It highlights that the Koreans are a homogeneous nation with one territory, the same blood and one language from ancient times, and that all the fellow countrymen should turn out in the struggle for national reunification, true to the three charters.
Carved in relief on the lower parts of the both tower bodies are sculptures dealing with a reunified Korea, the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation, the plans for establishing a Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, and the three principles for national reunification.
On display in the recesses of the tower body are the rare souvenir stone slabs sent by the Koreans in the north and south and from abroad, world progressives and reunification movement organizations.
