Concrete Bridge Built on a Stream
In late August, a small concrete bridge was built over the stream in front of a village of Pupho farm in Kangnyong County, South Hwanghae Province.
It was built by the officials of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea who came to the village in order to assist farmers in recovering the damage caused by typhoon.
Originally, there had been stepping stones. But during the rainy season, the residents could not cross the stream due to the rising water.
The officials decided to build a bridge over the stream for the convenience of farmers.
During a break of their reconstruction campaign, they discussed a method for laying the foundation without building a cofferdam and confirmed its scientific accuracy and safety with the help of researchers of Pyongyang University of Architecture.
They began to build the bridge at every night, lighting up a campfire.
The day when they left the village after rounding off the recovery campaign, the farmers saw them off on the concrete bridge, expressing heartfelt gratitude to them.
