DPRK Ensures Children’s Rights

Date: 20/11/2020 | Source: Naenara (En) | Read original version at source

The DPRK pays close attention to the growth of children and takes all measures possible for them to grow up cheerfully.

Thanks to such beneficial systems as the universal 12-year compulsory education and the universal free medical care, children grow sound mentally, morally and physically.

There are branch schools for pupils in hard-of-access mountain villages and far-flung small islands, and school trains, buses and ships are in operation for them.

Children have systematic and regular medical checkup by an obstetrician while they are in the womb and by a paediatrician after their birth.

Just from the day of their birth, they have their own clinical charts for recording their body weight, health conditions, vaccination, etc.

Medical workers in charge of them have a detailed grasp of their health, environment for their upbringing, education and living conditions and take appropriate measures.

Priority is given to providing all the best things for their health, education and life.

In recent years alone, the modern Okryu Children’s Hospital was built and the Songdowon International Children’s Camp, the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace and other bases for their extracurricular activities were renovated.

The Pyongyang Children’s Foodstuff Factory and many other light industry factories produce quality and nutritious foodstuffs and supply them to children.

All the children of preschool age are brought up and educated at nurseries and kindergartens at State and public expenses.

Children bereft of their parents grow healthily at baby homes and orphanages built in different parts of the country.

Under the warm care of the State, they enter primary and middle schools for orphans and learn to their heart’s content, being provided with all conditions for their studying and living.

The policy for children’s rights in the DPRK is fully embodied in the law on the nursing and upbringing of children, the law on children’s right and other sectoral laws and regulations, based on the Socialist Constitution.

November 20 this year marks the 31st anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
