Pak Hyon Suk of the DPRK won the women’s 63kg weightlifting category at the 29th Olympic Games in 2008.
She snatched 106kg and jerked 135kg and was thus placed first by lifting a total of 241kg.
Asked by the journalists about the secret of her success after the
match, she answered that she was invigorated and encouraged by the
thought that Chairman Kim Jong Il was watching her game and she was
able to succeed in the third try.
She added she would bring the Olympic
gold medal as her gift to the venue of grand festival of victors in
celebration of the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK.
She bagged three gold medals at the 7th Asian senior club
weightlifting championships, renewed its record to obtain a gold at the 5th
East Asian Games and won the women’s 58 kg snatch at the 2010 World
Weightlifting Championships.
She also obtained good results at different international games
including the 2007 World Weightlifting Championships, the 4th East Asian Games, the 16th Asian Games and the 2011 Asian Weightlifting
Championships.
She was awarded the title of People’ s Athlete in 2008.
