“On November 13, DPRK woman athlete Sin Kum Dan set another new world record in the women’s 400 m final with 51 seconds and four after renewing the world record in the women’s 800 m event with one minute, 59 seconds and 1 the day before.”
This is a paragraph of the article reporting that Sin broke world records at the first GANEFO (Games of New Emerging Forces) held in November 1963 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
She was the only player who won three gold medals in the games.
President Kim Il Sung had sent a high-speed camera to enable her to study running methods scientifically and when Sin came back after winning victory in the GANEFO, he called her a “triumphant general”.
During her playing career she renewed world records eleven times to be called the “queen of world athletics”.
She had the honour of having photographs taken with President Kim Il Sung several times and awarded Kim Il Sung Prize and the title of People’s Athlete.
