President Kim Il Sung attended the congress of sportsmen on October 6 Juche 35(1946) and clarified the mission of physical culture and sports of Korea.
He said that physical culture and sports in liberated, democratic Korea at present should not be confined to the distinguished records of a few individual players nor should they become a pastime for a few.
He continued to say that they should be developed in the future as an important factor of nation-building to ensure Korea’s independence and sovereignty and its democratic development. In other words, he added, in order to bring up staunch fighters for building a democratic Korea, physical culture and sports should be developed in such a way as to give all people physical and mental training.
This instruction of the President constituted a Juche-oriented line clearly indicating the way for developing the country’s physical culture and sports.
The first sportspeople’s meeting in liberated Korea is etched in the annals of history telling the exploits the President performed for the development of the physical culture and sports of the country.
