One early November day in Juche 40 (1951) during the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), Kim Il Sung , supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army, received a report from an official about a young soldier who shot down 5 enemy planes in a month.
Satisfied with the soldier’s feat, the Supreme Commander highly praised him and asked about his name, age and home.
The official answered that his father, mother and brothers were living in an enemy-controlled area.
The Supreme Commander said: Now the People’s Army soldiers are fighting bravely in the battles to destroy the enemy, in order to defend the Party and the homeland even by sacrificing their own youth and lives without hesitation. It is the revolutionary obligation of our commanding officers to rescue the families of such excellent soldiers from enemy-controlled areas and take good care of them.
Told about the details of enemy’s situation on the way to the soldier’s home from an official, he instructed him to send a regiment there to rescue the family members.
Noting that there was nothing to spare for the soldiers fighting at the cost of their blood, he urged the official to send a regiment to the soldier’s home in the enemy rear without delay.
Later, there took place an operation to break through the enemy’s strict cordon to rescue the soldier’s family from the enemy-controlled area.
