A few days ago, Japan and Australia were invited to the NATO Foreign Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels. Concerning with this, the Chinese newspaper “Global Times” carried an article condemning NATO, an outcome of the Cold War, for being reduced to a lethal weapon of invading other countries and posing fatal threats to the security in the region and the world.
The article disclosed that NATO demonstrated its existence by steadily strengthening bonds with non-NATO member states at the end of 1991, and that the most important thing in realizing “globalization of NATO” is just “Asia-Pacificization of NATO”.
It also pointed out that the key to achieving “globalization of NATO” and “Asia-Pacificization of NATO” is to weaken China and Russia, so-called “global strategic competitors” defined by the U.S., and that the U.S. and that Indo-Pacific Strategy will accelerate the process of concentrating the resources of NATO in the Asia-Pacific region.
And it stressed that NATO which is quickening its pace towards Asia-Pacific region has already emerged as a fatal threat to the security in the region and the world, and that people should heighten their due vigilance against NATO and the U.S., lethal weapons.
NATO is an aggressive military organization established by the U.S. in order to use it for realizing its strategy for world hegemony by subordinating European countries militarily and politically under the pretext of coping with the “threats from communism”.
It has been 30 years since NATO completely lost its justification for existence with the termination of the Cold War. But the U.S. persists with “globalization of NATO” and “Asia-Pacificization of NATO”. Here lies an evil intention of the U.S. to maintain its supremacy by expanding to the whole world its scope of military operations through NATO.
Bloody tragedies resulted from NATO’s military activities in several countries and regions including former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Ukraine show that as long as NATO, the remains of the Cold War, exists, there would be no peaceful days in the world.
Last year, the UK, France and Germany, the NATO member states, dispatched all kinds of warships to the Asia-Pacific region to wage large-scale joint military exercises with the U.S. for the first time after the Cold War. Recently, NATO Secretary General mentioned about the cooperation with the regional allies to cope with the “threats from China”. All these are dangerous developments which raise concerns from the international society.
In this connection, the spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry denounced that NATO has been reduced to a tool in pursuit of supremacy of an individual country and warned that NATO, which once plunged Europe into turbulence, must not drive Asia and the rest of the world into turbulence again.
This highlights once more the fact that the eastward expansion of NATO has its purpose to maintain the hegemony of the U.S. by constricting the strategic space of China as well as Russia.
The U.S. should abandon its sinister intention to use NATO for putting the world under its thumb, keeping in mind that the more desperately it is hell-bent on realizing its hegemonic ambition in the Asia-Pacific region, it would face the greater opposition and rejection from the regional countries.
