Jo Kum Ryong, anathlete of the Amnokgang Sports Club, hasrenewed national records four times in the national 100- and 200-metres races in recent years.
With a suitable physical conditions for sprints, Jo learned the rudiments of athletics at Kaeson Juvenile Sports School in Pyongyang.
The then instructor Kwon Ki Du led him who was very clever and had good sensation of movement to concentrate on studying mathematics and checked his math homework every day.
It helped Jo to train his brain and practise athletic skills at the same time.
He won the men’s 100-metres sprint in the 46th national sports games of juvenile sports schools a year after he began to learn athletic rudiments and stole theshow as a promising sprinter in several later competitions.
At the age of 16 he had alreadytook part in the senior-level contests and set a new record.
