The picturesque Pothong riverside is well-known as a people’s pleasure ground as the Pothong River flowing through downtown Pyongyang matches well with its surrounding landscape.
Not a few people are devoting their sincere efforts to add beauty to its scenery. Among them are workers of Dredging Workteam No. 3 of the Pothonggang Management Station.
One midnight a few days ago, a man was hurrying along the promenade of the river with a heavy backpack on his back. He was Sonu Song Chol, leader of the workteam, who was returning to his workplace after getting necessary spare parts for repairing a pump. On his arrival at the dredger, he started to dismantle the pump though the night was far advanced.
While he was repairing the pump, his workteam members returned from their way home as they were also worried about the dredger.
When they finished the repair by pooling efforts, the day had already broken.
It is difficult to say only in a few words about the painstaking efforts of them who work on the river all the year round.
In winter, they have to drive the dredger against cold wind blowing along the river course and, in summer, they work in the face of sultry weather. But they brace themselves up at the sight of happy people walking along the riverside.
Thanks to their devotion to turn the river into that full of pleasure and happiness, its landscape changes more beautifully and the people’s laughter resounds more loudly.
