A few days ago, the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm was inaugurated in the Ryonpho area in Hamju County, South Hamgyong Province. It will contribute to improving the diet of people in Hamhung City and the province.
This modern greenhouse farm has been built in just over 230 days since its ground-breaking ceremony in February. Covering a wide area of 280 hectares, it consists of one-hectare, 1 000 m 2 and 500 m 2 greenhouses, totalling 850.
Such advanced technologies as hydroponic cultivation and comprehensive nutritious liquid analysing system and modern equipment and facilities were introduced into the greenhouses to firmly guarantee high productivity.
Various fruit-bearing and leaf vegetables, including cucumber, tomato, pepper, watermelon, bok choy and celery, can be cultivated there. Tens of greenhouses installed with geothermal heating pipes are arranged to grow vegetable seedlings all the year round.
The greenhouses can produce vegetables even in heating-free condition by enhancing heat-preserving effects with the introduction of a double vinyl sheet system and heat-insulating quilt and improve productivity while saving labour by applying a soil-free cultivation method.
Quality vinyl sheet with great tensile strength which suits the climatic condition of the Ryonpho area with strong wind was used and the quality and lifespan of truss and heat-insulating quilt was improved markedly as against the previous period.
Such characteristic values as the amount of nutritious liquid consumption according to vegetable species and their growth stages are scientifically measured. An automated nutritious liquid supply system was introduced and a highly-efficient integrated production system with several functions was established.
Besides, the farm can normalize production while saving a large amount of fertilizers by reusing drained nutritious solutions after sterilizing them and supplementing nutritious elements. A humus soil production line was built rationally and the foundations of exclusively producing substrates for the cultivation in hydroponic greenhouses were laid, with the result that the industrialization and modernization of vegetable production are put on a high level.
