Janggi, or Korean chess, is a popular intelligence game with a long history.
Historical records of the Korean chess are handed down from the Koryo period, but it seems to have come into being earlier.
It is characterized by visual simplicity and plainness.
The size of the chessboard, all lines on it and the shape of pieces go well together in terms of aesthetic sense, the colour of letters engraved on every piece makes it possible to correctly distinguish between two teams and the regular movement of pieces ensures immediacy and visual stability.
The Korean chess has a wide variety of playing systems and modes and unique techniques.
It has clear stipulations of different systems according to positioning methods and the features of each stage of the game.
The techniques of janggi are the products of mathematical calculations and logical thinking, and each move of them is profound in width and depth and requires great intelligence.
The Korean janggi was inscribed as an element of national intangible cultural heritage.
