People’sAthlete Kim Kwang Min, winner of KimJong Il Prize and DPRK Labour Hero, is a laudable sports hero and top women’sfootball coach who made a substantial contribution to the development of women’sfootball in the DPRK and exalted the dignity and honour of the country withgold medals.
Hestarted football in his teens. In the 1980s he took part in many internationalcompetitions while acting as a member of the national men’s football team.
Heexalted the honour of Juche Korea in different international competitions includingthe Universiad held in 1985.
Inthose days, he developed into a Merited Athlete and People’s Athlete under theloving care of the Workers’ Party of Korea. After graduating from university,he began to work as a football coach of the then April 25 Sports Club in late1997.
Itwas at the 15th Asian Games in Qatar in 2006 that he started to winfame leading the national women’s football team.
Inthe competition the women’s football team led by him beat the Japanese team 4-2in the final to win the event. The team also took the first place at the thenFourth Military World Games and the then Asian women’s football championshipsheld in 2008.
Hewas awarded the 2008 Asian best coach prize.
Later,too, he led the national women’s football team to win victory at the then EastAsian Women’s Cup and the 17th Asian Games in 2013, the then 2015EAFF East Asia Cup and other international competitions.
Thewomen’s football team led by him also won the EAFF E-1 Football Championship in2017, the Cyprus Women’s Cup in 2019 and the women’s football event of theSeventh Military World Games.
