As he gavean instruction to build an ice rink in the capital city of Pyongyang in JanuaryJuche 69(1980), Chairman Kim Jong Il said that it should be built wellto host even international events.
True to his intention, thedesigners pooled their wisdom to produce a unique design representing a skatecap and skate edge.
As heexamined the design, he asked officials why they planned not to run the icerink from June to October every year.
They answered that they plannedso because it had to use cooling apparatuses which were more expensive than therefrigeration equipment for freezing the ice rink to cool the high indoortemperature in summer.
Saying that if the people cannotuse it for five months a year, it is needless to be built, he noted that hewould supply all the cooling devices needed and told them to create the designagain so that the ice rink would be open all the year round. He also noticedthat the designers missed the equipment for artificially drawing out the staleindoor air and instructed them to redesign it from a people-centred viewpoint.
True to his intention that theice rink to be provided for the Korean people should be the best one, thedesigners produced the design of the ice rink again.
