It happened when General Secretary KimJong Un visited an island defending unit located at theoutpost on the western front.
After acquainting himself with the living and combatpreparations of the service personnel of the unit and guided a live firingdrill, he suddenly asked the commanding officer of the unit if there was abranch school in the defending unit.
The officer failed to answer readily as he thoughtit was a question unrelated to combat preparations, but soon answered thatthere was a branch school.
Referring to the existence of the branch school onthe island, the General Secretary told accompanying commanding officers that officialsof upper units should learn about education on a regular basis with a correctview on the rising generation and future and solve knotty problems in time.
When they inspect island defending units, theyshould go there with notebooks and stationery needed for students, not withempty hands, he added.
The commanding officers were greatly impressed byhis instruction.
Whenever an occasion arose, they would visit islanddefending units, but they had never paid attention to branch schools on theislands.
Afterwards, many officials visited branch schoolswith a variety of school things, true to the lofty intention of the General Secretary whoalways pays close attention to the education work of the country.
