President Kim Il Sung made a historic conclusion specifying thetasks facing the Party organization in Taedong County and ways for implementingthem at the plenary meeting of the Taedong County Committee of South PhyonganProvince of the Workers' Party of Korea on March 14, Juche 41(1952), before givinginstructions as to taking good care of forests.
He said that forests are a precious asset of the country and that althoughforests were created through an all-people movement before the FatherlandLiberation War, many mountains were burnt during the war due to the brutalbombings by the US imperialists.
Fretting that some peasants cut down trees in the mountains, he earnestlysaid that it was already heartbreaking that many forests were burnt by USbombings and that the peasants should not have done so.
The officials could not raise their heads with a guilty conscience.
They had thought that they could not keep some people from cutting downtrees since the terrible calamity of war was causing extreme difficulties tothe people’s lives.
After a while, Kim Il Sung said that we should have a large numberof trees to restore the devastated national economy after the victory in the war,and earnestly instructed them to create many forests through a mass movement inthe future.
Create forests through a mass movement!
Thus the torch of afforestation was lit amid the fierce flames of war.
