The 2024 Spring National Sports Festival opened inthe DPRK.
In the festival players will compete in more than530 events of 31 sports including football, basketball, volleyball,weightlifting, gymnastics and Taekwon-Do.
An opening ceremony took place at the BasketballGymnasium on Pyongyang’s Chongchun Street on March 14.
Present there were Kim Il Guk, minister of PhysicalCulture and Sports, Kim Myong Gun, chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee,officials in the field of sports, sportspersons and the citizens of Pyongyang.
The minister of Physical Culture and Sports made anopening address.
He called on all the participants to display highsports technique and noble sportsmanship through the festival and giveresponsible guidance over the games to achieve good successes in them.
Expressing belief that the current festival to beheld amid the great expectations and interest of the people would be asignificant occasion for adding to the optimistic atmosphere of the entire societyand dynamically promoting the development of sports techniques of the country,he declared the 2024 Spring National Sports Festival open.
The flag of the festival was hoisted amid theplaying of the song "The Glorious Motherland".
There was a march-past of the players, followed by aTaekwon-Do demonstration and men's three-person basketball game.
