Shortly ago, a more civilized flourishing socialist living space sprang up in the Hwasong area of Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The second-stage project to build 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area has been successfully brought to completion, unfolding harmonious and kaleidoscopic arrangements of apartment houses, public amenities, and structures with a total floor space of well over one million square metres in an area of over 80 hectares. This means the fulfillment of the task of the third year under the five-year plan for capital city construction set forth at the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

The project was discussed and decided at the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth WPK Central Committee in December 2022.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un specified the orientation of the project and ways for it, saying that the housing construction in the capital city is a project advanced by the Party and the state as the most important task to realize their cherished desire and a promise made by the Party and the government to the people.

Referring to the issues arising in the project, he stressed the need to provide the depth of the streets by constructing most of buildings interlocked as in a folding-screen, increase the architectural density, ensure the organic connection between the streets from the point of view of historical development, reinforce construction force and equipment, supply materials and funds, and provide living conditions for builders.

He examined at least 1 000 layouts to finish them.

On February 15, 2023, he attended the groundbreaking ceremony for starting the project, and pressed the detonator button to encourage the builders in the vanguard of the sacred struggle for creating the happiness of the people.

The builders turned out with extraordinary determination and redoubled efforts, and raised a strong wind of setting new standards and records, finishing excavation in a fortnight and buckling down to the building of frameworks of apartment houses from late March.

Soldier-builders, with the pride of being the architect of the people’s happiness, kindled the flames of creating a new Hwasong speed, Hwasong legend at the construction sites.

Workers across the country also made innovations in production, rendering great assistance to the project.

From the outset of the project, a great number of workers and young people in the capital conducted supporting activities at the sites to help the builders.

During his inspection of the near-to-completion project on April 5, Kim Jong Un highly appreciated the feats of the builders, and indicated the detailed orientation of the on-going third-stage construction in the Hwasong area and the fourth-stage project slated for next year.

The spectacular new street, much distinguished from the previous one, is a microcosm of the people’s happiness and the rapid development of the country where the civilization of the new era is coming into full bloom.
