Traditional relations of friendship between the DPRK and Iran have been consolidated and developed in the course of realizing the common cause of independence against imperialism. The annals of this friendship recorded the visit of H.E. Seyed Ali Khamenei, the then Iranian President, to the DPRK 35 years ago.

President Kim Il Sung had a historic meeting with H.E. President Seyed Ali Khamenei who visited the country in May 1989, opening a new chapter for further strengthening and developing the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation in conformity with the desire and demand of the peoples of the two countries.

President Kim Il Sung warmly received H.E. President Seyed Ali Khamenei and exchanged views on promoting friendly and cooperative bilateral relations and issues of common concern. He also expressed full support for and solidarity with the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

During the visit the two countries signed the 1989-1990 plan of action for scientific, technological and cultural exchanges and the agreement on cooperation between the governments and foreign ministries respectively, and held the first session of the joint committee for economic and sci-tech cooperation between the governments.

The historic meeting between President Kim Il Sung and H.E. President Seyed Ali Khamenei marked a significant milestone in expanding and developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and Iran onto a higher level and building a new independent world.

Friendship and solidarity between the DPRK and Iran continue to develop even after many decades.

True to the noble intention of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , President of the State Affairs, the DPRK government remains unchanged in its stand to further promote long-standing relations of friendship with Iran across all fields including politics, the economy and culture.

Under the leadership of H.E. Seyed Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Iranian people are now firmly safeguarding the achievements of Islamic Revolution beating off the moves of the U.S. and other hostile forces.

Korean people will, as in the past, set great store by and expand continuously the friendly and cooperative relations with Iranian people, which have been solidified and developed through joint struggle for independence against imperialism over centuries. We will give Iranian people full support in their righteous struggle to safeguard the national sovereignty and the gains of Islamic Revolution.
