The Paektusan Geopark boasts modern infrastructure and cultural facilities for tourism and human life.
The Paektusan geological exhibition hall serves as a base for disseminating and studying the knowledge of peculiar volcanic and geological phenomena.
Samjiyon City has a range of cultural and sports facilities, including the hall of culture, sci-tech library, Pegaebong Ski Resort, Samjiyon Ice Rink and general amusement hall, which provide venues for different scientific, sporting and cultural events to help visitors have a better understanding of the geopark and local culture.
The Samjiyon Schoolchildren’s Palace, a base for local children’s extracurricular activities, has various research rooms, rooms for hobby groups, laboratories, auditorium, gymnasium and library. Local children cultivate their talent to their heart’s content through diverse extracurricular activities, giving pleasure to visitors.
There are hotels and lodgings for foreign tourists and local visitors in different parts of the geopark.
There are also public service and catering facilities such as the Chonji Health Complex, the Millim Health Complex and the Pegaebong Noodle House, as well as shops where tourists can buy souvenirs and specialties.
Main roads link the areas of Mt Paektu, Rimyongsu, Phothae and Taehongdan, contributing to the regional economic growth and providing convenience to tourists. The main railway line crosses Samjiyon City, and a regular air service is available between Pyongyang and Samjiyon.
