Almost every day newspapers and TV carry the news about moving into new rural houses that continue to spring up across the country. People catch themselves admiring the new houses, saying they are different from those last year and they are all unique and distinctive in every region and area, and even at a farm and village.
They have been built according to the “illustrated book of 100 dwelling houses”.
More than 1 000 dwelling houses of 99 styles were built in 113 blocks at the village of the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm under the South Hamgyong Provincial Rural Economy Committee, signalling the start of socialist rural civilization—currently a ubiquitous reality across the country.
It is the noble intention of the Workers’ Party of Korea to make rural houses built in a way that makes the most of the characteristics of each region and area and embodies modern civilization. True to it, the “illustrated book of 100 dwelling houses” has been completed, divided into three parts, coastal, lowland and mountainous, which means 300 styles of houses in all.
The Jisin Vegetable Farm in Huichon City, Jagang Province, is surrounded by rolling mountains in all directions. Modern houses have been built here.
A farmer, who moved into a new house in Sunchon-ri, Hwangju County, North Hwanghae Province in May, said that she was so happy with the new house as it is much wider than her previous one and has several living rooms with a kitchen and bathroom arranged for convenience.
She added: We paid no effort and money to build such a wonderful house. In fact, we don’t know even how much it is. In my understanding, in a foreign country a rural house generally costs the owner thousands of US dollars per square metre, in other words about US$400 000 to 500 000 for a 60-odd-square-metre house. In our country, however, the Party and the state cover the expenditure for all, ranging from design to construction and afforestation. How benevolent!
The family and relatives of Ri Kyong Chol, leader of Workteam No. 3 at the Ryonghung Farm in Thaechon County, North Phyongan Province, received ten new houses.
They moved into new homes in April almost at the same time, so they argued about where to hold a housewarming party. Such things happened in the families of Rim Kyong Chol, a technical instructor, and Ryang To Son, a farmer of the same workteam.
Let’s pile up the stacks of rice on our facelifted home village.
This is the determination of all farmers across the country who are devoting themselves on every field.
