Many famous songs inspiring patriotism have been created in the sacred annals of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Created in 1947 according to the plan of Comrade Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) and under his meticulous guidance, the national anthem of the DPRK represents ennobling love of the country in a profound way and reflects the ideological will of all its people to build a powerful country dignified with independence.
Encouraged by the song’s solemn melody and united on the strength of patriotism, they have exerted themselves for the victory and prosperity of the Republic.
A monumental paean singing of the outlook of the country and the infinite pride of its people, The Glorious Motherland , too, portrays their strong emotion of having the greatest might of patriotism for the first time in their 5 000-year history.
While Song of Proclamation of the People’s Republic , created when a new Korea was being built, inspired the working masses with patriotic zeal, Victorious May , Song of Industrial Rehabilitation for Nation-building , Song of Ploughing and other songs created in the period when the whole country seethed with the joy of creating a new life, depict the pride and excitement of the Korean people as the masters of factories and land.
During the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953), too, songs on the theme of patriotism helped the Korean people to nourish love of their home villages and confidence in victory.
After the war, the US imperialists claimed that the DPRK would not be able to stand on its feet again within 100 years. But the Korean people rose up from the debris of war, singing Song of Reconstruction .
We Are the Happiest in the World , a masterpiece symbolic of the era of the Workers’ Party of Korea, I Will Remain Your Son Forever , I Think, Looking at You , Who Ever Taught Me ? We Like Socialism , See the “Golden” Trees on the Hillsides, Rows of Apple Trees and Under This Sky and on This Land are all favourite songs of the Korean people.
Ode to Motherland , a song created to mark the 65th founding anniversary of the DPRK, My Country Filled with Hope , Song of Advance of Socialism , We Love Our Country , Our National Flag and other songs powerfully encourage the Korean people who are devoting patriotic zeal and honest efforts to ushering in a new era of national prosperity.
