Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between DPRK and Russian Federation comes into effect

The ratification instruments of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation signed by the heads of states of both countries in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024 were exchanged in Moscow on December 4.
Kim Jong Gyu, Vice Foreign Minister of the DPRK and Andrei Yurievich Rudenko, Vice Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation signed the protocol on exchange of ratification instruments.
The Treaty came into effect as of 4 December, 2024 when the ratification instruments were exchanged, pursuant to Article 22 of the Treaty.
Accordingly, the treaty on friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation between the DPRK and the Russian Federation concluded on February 9, 2000 became null and void.
This Treaty shall serve as a legal framework for realizing the far-reaching plans of the state leadership of the two countries and the desire of the two peoples to put the bilateral relations on a new strategic level and build a powerful state while firmly defending the regional and global security environment in conformity with the common interests.
The mighty DPRK-Russia relations based on the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership will be a powerful security mechanism that promotes the wellbeing of the peoples of the two countries, eases the regional situation and guarantees international strategic stability. It will provide further impetus for accelerating the establishment of independent, just and multi-polarized world order free from domination, subjugation and hegemony.
