A commuter bus comes along in time for class at Ryongho Senior Middle School in Ryonggang County, Nampho Municipality.
One spring day last year, just before the new school year began, a man seemingly in his fifties came to see the principal of the school. He was Kim Sang Nam, an official of a mine nearby. He said he knows some of the students walk as far as four or more kilometres to and from school. His mine wants to run a commuter bus for them, and he has come to discuss with the principal where the bus was to stop, he added.
In fact, the principal was worried about those students who travelled long distance to and from school, but he had thought he couldn’t help it.
Kim said to the principal who repeatedly expressed thanks: “I think our children should have no inconvenience in commuting. Any citizen of this country is duty-bound to do something good for them, given the fact that the Party and the government spare no efforts for the rising generation.”
Thus, a commuter bus started to run on April 1, 2024.
The students were more delighted than anyone else. In the past their parents had to hurry them out of bed in the morning, but they now became early birds and even hurried their mothers lest they should be late for the bus, and some bothered to change their course to take the bus.
An increasing number of students took the bus. So the officials of the mine replaced the bus with a larger one, saying that they had nothing to spare for the coming generation.
The commuter bus still runs every day implanting the benevolence of the socialist education system in the students.
