The IT Institute of the High-tech Research and Development Centre under Kim Il Sung University, one of the top ten IT enterprises of 2024, is well known across the country as a creative and innovative business with an integrated system of scientific research and production.
In the past the institute designed, developed and introduced the information systems for a dozen projects which are of national significance and conducive to the development of the national economy. In the course of this, it has been nominated as one of top ten IT enterprises seven times. In particular, it rose to fame as it developed computer vaccine program Kullaksae and video conferencing system Ragwon , both of which were awarded the February 16 Science and Technology Prize and the December 15 Quality Medal.
“We set great store by the efficient use of talented personnel. This is the secret of our success,” said Choe Chol Ryong, director of the institute.
The institute adheres to the principle of training those graduates who have majored in different subjects of natural sciences, especially young postgraduates, to be talents equipped with cutting-edge information technology.
When it employs postgraduates, it asks them about their majors and special abilities before it allocates the right person to the right post.
It also makes sure competent employees give lectures on over 10 subjects such as “Machine learning” and “Program analysis.” The lectures on the development of cutting-edge technology including “Time-frequency signal analysis” win popularity among the audience and do much to help the scientists reap good results in their research practice.
Many scientists at the institute have contributed scores of papers to authoritative international academic journals. And the institute has recently developed face verification program Kumbit and online 3D GIS Kumsugangsan , both of which were appreciated as the best IT products in 2024.
Besides, it makes the most of its talent forces in carrying out research projects by developing and applying a combined software production and management system.
The institute holds a firm position and performs an important role in the development of IT industry. It has established new branches staffed mainly with competent IT technicians for special and subdivided subjects, thus making a positive contribution to the sci-tech development of the country.
